Here's the skinny...

It wasn't long ago where I had lost all inspiration and motivation as a designer and photographer and thought I was meant for something else. I'm not sure what happened. But I bought a digital SLR from a friend and to this day I believe that camera resurrected my creative drive. I'm back in full swing with the motivation and passions I had in school and I'm creating again with either the camera or computer.

I'm a DC based graphic design contractor for the US Army and a freelance photographer and designer. This blog is my little corner of the web to share my ideas, photos, and designs and I hope this blog helps me to learn and grow as an artist.

Currently a design student specializing in print design I will soon finish with a BS in graphic design late next year I plan to further my education in interactive/web design. If there's anything I've learned in this industry, being well diverse in your skills is a must!

While I don't limit myself to a specific type of photography, I have a sweet tooth for live music, pets, and portraits. You might see Roxy and Bob a lot around here. Roxy is our 4 year old German shepherd whom I have full conversations with and Bob, short for Bob Marley, is our adopted kitty who has energy only for sleep and a full bowl of food. Not to mention, he's a social dude and doesn't like to be alone.

If you'd like to learn more, check out my portfolios and flickr photostream for more photos and info. Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to say hi!

Army Ten Miler: I won! woo hoo!

Seriously, just to be in the top 5 was just pure awesome. But to win the Grand Prize, first place of the T-shirt logo contest, was just an HONOR! Thanks to all that voted. :) I’ve posted the press release:

Weekly Design Challenge

There’s times that the design team in the office gets some down time, so we’ve started a weekly design challenge for us to keep our creative awesomeness in check. Constantly pumping out stuff for the same client can get kinda dull, so we like to switch it up a bit.

The goal is to create a portfolio worthy piece from the free istock image of the week from istockphoto.com and turn into a design masterpiece of your choice but the end of the week. At the end we all comment on each other’s work, good and bad. Makes us all better designers, right?

This week was a little different. We had the option to choose any photo and any end product (poster, flyer, brochure, website, etc.) but it had to be music themed. With the help of a tutorial I found, I created this, but used my own images and tweaked it a little. I think in all my time in school and work, this has to be the best photoshop piece I’ve done. So I thought it was blog worthy…

Army Ten Miler t-shirt contest

I’ve submitted my design for the Army Ten Miler t-shirt contest, and happy to say that mine got chosen in the top 5 out of over 100 entries. So registered runners have the chance to vote on their favorite design.  All designs are well done, and VERY good. Mine is Design 1.

Legwarmers, RamsHeadLive! Baltimore MD 30 May 2009

I was invited out to take pic at the Legwarmers show in Baltimore this past weekend, and as always, had a blast. I had some trouble at first with my new lens: tamron 17-50mm 2.8, and was feeling like I should return it. But after very little processing, realized I should probably keep it.

I’ve added a few of my favorites. More on Flickr.

Wedding photography is tough.

I was invited to a wedding recently and had the opportunity to try out some wedding photography. Overall, it’s tough. To all you wedding photographers – hats off to you! Not sure if I’m cut out for it. So I’ve collected my favorites here and played around with some actions from The Pioneer Woman she offers some action sets (1 and 2) that you can download for free. As you can see my favorite ones were from the action set 2: seventies and colorized.

These first 2 are from the rehearsal.

I liked how these two images looked in these two different actions, so I had to post both.
