Yay for Spring!

The title says it all. Yay! After surviving two blizzards in the DC area, I’m definitely happy to see this warm weather. I can slip on my flip flops ..that’s a huge bonus, you have no idea. I have a love hate relationship with shoes…I like them, I love shopping for them, but I’d much rather slip on my flip flops. I know weird, right? And I’m talking Old Navy 5 dollar flip flops, nothing fancy. I digress..

So Spring, yes, the warm weather and flowers are a blooming! As some of you may know I’m residing in the sticks with my parents until the new condo is done in VA. My mom has flowers of all sorts planted around the yard and when I came home from grocery shopping there were all these butterflies on the lilac bush. So I ran inside and literally threw my groceries inside and grabbed my camera. (It’s a good thing I didn’t get eggs..)

Yes, I know, this isn’t a butterfly.

Signs of Spring

spring1

I saw this flower peaking out if the fence outside my gate in the back yard.

It’s a pine tree of some sort. Not sure if those yellow buds are baby pine cones?

I saved the grossest thing for last. These guys aren’t so ugly by themselves, but when they’re all together like this stuck to the side of a tree, it really grosses me out. With no doubt I used my 70-300mm for this.

And they’re furry!!! yyyuuucckk!

First Portrait Session

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take some photos of my friend, Kim and her sister, Melissa. They wanted photos for their mom as a surprise birthday gift. So we went out to Old Town in Alexandria, VA. This was a good session to brush up on taking portraits again, since it’s been a while. Here are my favorites:

The one on the right is Melissa’s friend that was with us, I had to put this up since I’m a fan of high fives.

These two are by far my favorite. That nikon 50mm 1.8 lens never disappoints!

Thanks Kim and Melissa for being great models!

Miss Pebbles

This is Pebbels, My sister’s yorkie. She’s about overdue for a grooming. So not only do I take her pictures, but I’m also her designated “groomer”. I used to be a dog bather part time. I found that pretty awarding too. I wanted to go to dog grooming school to become certified to maybe do it on the weekends and earn some extra cash. But I’m saving that for another time. I’m already in school part time and working full time, so I’m not going to totally burn myself out. But while I was a bather, I collected a lot of tools and techniques. So I guess I better fit Pebbles in for a bath and a hair cut soon.
